Ninth World War One Lesson

On Thursday we did a rehearsal of everything as a whole group, including the bits in the canteen and outside.

Are show is this Thursday and im really looking forward to it as it is a completely different way of performing then i have ever done, it remind me of the horror mazes in Thorpe park and things like that as the audience will be walking through the school watching little bits.

Eighth World War One Lesson

Yesterdays lesson we went straight into our show and did a run threw, I thought that once we did the whole thing together it looked really effective and the energy built up over the piece and made it look even better, after we joined the other theatre group and and saw there piece, i really liked there's and it was very creative, especially with the shirts and when the girls where dancing with them draped round there shoulders as if they where dancing with there husbands at war.

we went threw the school and marked where each piece will be and got a better feel for how the show will be staged in the different places in the school. i think it is a very different way of performing but will be a good experience.

Seventh World War One Lesson

Yesterday we spent a lot of time working on our trenches piece of work, it was quite challenging as one of  the groups had changed there order so it was a bit confusing, but we found a new way to do the piece which i think looks very effective.

we also worked on our trench foot piece and i really enjoyed this as it is cleverly weaves into the trenches piece and the pieces overall climax looks great when we all end up marching in 4 lines.

Sixth World War One Lesson

Yesterday we only had an hours lesson as we were lucky enough to have a touring theatre company come and perform for us. in this hours lesson we all taught each other are trenches routines and then did them all together.

After that we went to the play, it was a four person cast with one girl and three men, i think that it worked really well with a small cast and it was clear that they where very close as an ensemble. The play was really good and really got us thinking about how war has adapted to our modern day society, the way that the play was presented was also very clever as they cut between the old days and modern day and showed us that the riots is now a piece of history as well as when people did not believe in equality.

Fifth World War One Lesson

For are first lesson back after the half term we went over the scenes that where devised last term and rehearsed them to remind us all of what we had done before we broke up, this was the waltz scene and our ration lines then we split off into our theatre groups and started to devise our scenes for the 15 minute plays.

Our class's stimulus is the trenches and yesterday we got the first part of out piece done, it is set in the battle field and shows some of the lines of defence they had in world war one, the front line, support line and people on rest. I was in the front line and we tried to use different levels and changing levels to make our piece look effective.

At the end of the lesson we added a piece to the beginning of the scene where we are acting as soldiers getting ready to go back out to war, putting our shoes and socks on and in my case i chose to tie a bandage around my leg as if i had bee injured.

Forth World War One Lesson

In yesterdays lesson we kind of had a taste of what it would be like to be in musical theatre as we started the lesson with learning how to waltz, at first i found it quite difficult as i have two left feet but after a while i managed to just about get the hang of it.

we then did singing where we where signing an old war song that i think soldiers would of song as like a fun song when they were drunk or having a celebration, i enjoyed doing this as i didnt know the song and it was fun to learn it.

We ended the lesson by separating into two groups, some people went with Miss Goodall to do break dancing and the rest of us created short physical theatre pieces that will be shown while are parents are walking around.

Third World War One Lesson

Today we had a talk from the head of theatre about the interview process for getting back into past 16, I was actually happy when we where told that we will be performing a shake spear monologue as part of the process as i love shake spear. I was also surprised at the number of people accepted to theatre strand in 6th form as i thought it would be a lot more.

For the rest of the theatre periods we practised, performed and talked in a group about our one minute physical theatre pieces and our stimulus was world war one. i really enjoyed watching everyone else's as it was interesting to see what each person developed when given the exercise. I really enjoyed Ben and Ella s as you could see the effort and thought they had put into there's to make sure they were in sync and everything flowed, which it did.

Second World War One Lesson

In todays lesson we started by getting a lecture from Ewan in the other Theatre Class, It was really interesting and i made alot of notes about what he said, as i do not study history it was all new to me and i found it very interesting some of my notes where ....
  • The war was between the British, Russian, French, German, Austria, America and Hungary.
  • Assassination of Duke France Ferdinand was said to be the cause of the war.
  • 75000 Germans where lost
  • 95000 French men where lost
  • 6000 killed by Chlorine gas.
We then went on to making pieces of movement theatre in groups of four, i was with Ben, Tyler and Romy and we made a really good group, we all had plenty of ideas and i think it turned out really well as we where all in time and we used simple movements that where very bold.

At the end of the session we where told that we need to make a one minute sequence about World War One, we had the option to work in partners or alone and i chose to work with Chem, i think me and chem will be good as partners for this as we are good friends so i wont find it awkward or embarrassing.

First World War One Lesson

Yesterday we started the lesson by Miss Goodall asking us what symbol comes to mind when we think about the words world war one, for me, the word guns came to my mind due to all the fighting and killing that happens in war. I found it interesting to see what everyone else's symbols where and most of them where very different. We got into groups of four and I was with Chem, Cameron and Tj, I found the music we devised the short pieces with really good because it was very dramatic which made it easier to work with.

For the second exercise we had to work in boy girl pairs, there weren't enough boys in our group so I worked in a three with Ella and Kim and instead of doing it as a pair in love we did it as three house wife's that's husbands had left, I enjoyed doing this because are was different to everyone else's so we could play around and do what we wanted and make up are own short story line for the piece we had to try and focus on it being a piece of physical theatre so when we went back to develop are pieces we included balances and 'trust exercises' ( when Kim fell back and I caught her).
